Yesterday, children at the Alternative Education Club from School no. 136 had a big surprise. The theatre group dramAcum stopped for a few hours in Ferentari to show the little ones how to stage a puppet play. The first session of the drama workshops was very fun for the children, especially since the first lesson consisted in drawing a mask that they found representative for themselves. From werewolves to heroes, the children let their imagination run free, and each piece was equally appreciated.
The visit at the Alternative Education Club is part of a more complex project of dramAcum group that aims to engage and inspire 25 communities in the country to take part in cultural activities developed by locals.
20 children in Ferentari will take part in this project and the rehearsals for the final play will take place in September, under the guidance of a team consisting in: Andreea Vălean, director and playwright at the Hungarian State Theatre in Cluj and Odeon Theatre in Bucharest, Oana Rusu, actress, Andreea Eșanu, actress, Ilia Tsinadze, American musician, Cristi Ștefănescu, musician – Electric Brother and Ralph Lee, puppeteer from New York.
The activity has been organised under the umbrella of the Alternative Education Club, that is financed by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bucharest, the Soros Foundation in Romania, the European Commission and the Roma Education Fund.
