Policy Center for Roma and Minorities and the National Council for Combating Discrimination invite you to the first photo-voice exhibition of the children from the Alternative Education Club. The exhibition „Beyond the ghetto” will take place on Friday, October 21, at 17:00 at Casa de Cultură a Studenților. The exhibition is part of the “Days of non-formal education” event, organized by LEAP Association (Link Education and Practice).
The exhibition will show images from the everyday life of children living in the ghetto area of Ferentari, emphasizing the contrast between the environment in which they live and the activities they take part in at the Alternative Education Club. This space of non-formal education, created by Policy Center for Roma and Minorities at the 136 Elementary School in Ferentari,is a creative and innovative place that offers children the chance to develop their talents – from music to dance, from theatre, photography, movie making, drawing and financial education to football, basketball, volleyball and boxing – to improve their school performance through permanent support from the foundation’s staff and volunteers.
The event is part of the initiative “The world through my eyes”, initiated by Policy Center for Roma and Minorities and the National Council for Combating Discrimination in order to offer children from Ferentari the possibility to show to the public their own vision on life in an artistic way, that would motivate them to stay in school.
The core of the exhibition is represented by pictures taken by 11 children from the Alternative Education Club during the photography class coordinated by the young photographer Alisa Tarciniu. Alina is a freelance photographer whose projects show her passion for the artistic and the social. In this sense, she developed projects together with Principesa Margaretă a României Foundation, Ovidiu Rom Association and recently, SOS Satele Copiilor Romania. She was an official photographer for the „Pasărea de Foc”, project the first community dance show in Romania. In 2009 she organized in Pasajul Universității hew own exhibition dedicated to fighting against breast cancer, called „Together with you”.
