Strangers Script Lab has as main goal obtaining professional screenplays, with a potential to become successful films, and creating a creative context that will encourage young screenwriters to interact with people from various artistic domains.
Professional or amateur screenwriters are invited to access the site www.strangerslab.eu and visit the APPLY section. All applicants must upload a PDF file containing a 10 page treatment for a feature film, a 3 – 5 pages sample of previous work, CV and a representative photo. English language is recommended, but Romanian participants can send their proposals in Romanian.
The only rule is that the proposed subjects must reach the theme of ethnic discrimination (through a character, a plot or sub-plot, an intrigue etc.).
A couple of Romanian and foreign lectors (both from film industry and mass-media and other artistic areas) will read and analyze the applications. Among the confirmed readers are:
- Matthieu Darras – founder of Nisi Masa, artistic director Bratislava IFF, member of Critics’Week, film critic for Positif
- Andreea Esca – PRO TV news anchor, editor-in-chief The One magazine
- Edward Lawrenson – film critic Screen International, artistic director London Film Festival, reader for BFI Production Board.
- Bogdan Șerban – Radio show host, Radio Guerilla
- Cătălin Mitulescu – director/screenwriter
- Txell Bonet Batala – screenwriter, radio host Barcelona
Five projects will be chosen, based on the reader’s feedback and the 5 authors will enter the laboratory, where they will develop their projects from treatment to first draft, guided by specialists, during two sessions of one week each. The lab’s guests will be important film industry professionals and personalities from the cultural, artistic and mass-media scene in Romania and Europe, but also students who will openly debate the five proposals of the lab, in focus groups.
During the first session (early August, in a hunting lodge, near Miclosoara, www.miclosoara.ro ) we will discuss the 5 treatments that will be accepted in the lab and we will help their authors go further with their first drafts. One week prior to the second session, participants will send the first drafts of the 5 projects in hard copy. During the second session (Danube Delta) we will discuss the first drafts. In the end, the most appreciated feature screenplay will receive an award of 2000 euros.
All accommodation and transport fees are covered by the organizers.
