June 10, 2011
Between June 6 and 8 2011, Aflatoun hosted its International Meeting 2011 in Zandvoort, the Netherlands. Aflatoun celebrated their three-year achievements, including having exceeded the 2008-2010 campaign goals of reaching 1 million children in 75 countries.
The International Meeting was attended by around 150 partners and stakeholders from 75 countries – including civil society organizations, governments, banks, corporations and foundations – which represented a rich venue for discussions and actions helping to move Child Social and Financial Education to the next level. Policy Center for Roma and Minorities was represented by Florin Botonogu, Policy Officer, which focused on presenting how Aflatoun’s social and financial education programme is being implemented at the Alternative Education Club, one of our largest projects currently developed in the Ferentari neighborhood, Bucharest’s most economically and socially vulnerable area. The Alternative Education Club is financially supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bucharest, the Soros Foundation in Romania, the European Commission and the Roma Education Fund. Policy Center for Roma and Minorities joined the Aflatoun network as a partner at the beginning of this year.
About Aflatoun
Aflatoun provides children with the building blocks of life, encouraging them to save their resources and start social and financial microenterprises. Through social & financial education, children are empowered to make a positive change in their lives and in their communities and eventually break the cycle of poverty in which many find themselves.
