As a partner of the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Bucharest, we announce the third annual academic conference, which will take place on May 18-19 at the University of Bucharest. The theme of this year’s conference is Redefining the Nation: Ethnicity and Nationhood in Communist and Post-Communist Societies.
Romanian and foreign undergraduate and post-graduate students of relevant subjects (political studies, anthropology, sociology, history, etc.) are invited to submit theoretic and empirical papers on sub-topics related to the conference theme. Some recommended topics are: communism and nation building; nationalism and transition to democracy; nationhood and ethnicity in everyday life; long-distance nationalism, migration and diasporas; racism and xenophobia; human rights and pluralism. The deadline for submission of paper abstracts (in English or French) is March 30, 2012 and the deadline for submission of full papers (in English, French or Romanian) is May 7, 2012. The conference is organized within the framework of the Central and Eastern European Politics and Societies program, which brings together the Free University of Brussels, the University of Bucharest, Babes-Bolyai University from Cluj and the University of Wrocklaw (Poland).
Policy Center for Roma and Minorities is one of the University of Bucharest partners for this event. The other partners are the Embassy of France (through its Service de Cooperation), Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie in Bucharest, University of Wroclaw, the delegation of Wallonie-Bruxelles International to Bucharest, the Europe Direct Centras information center and the Association of Political Science Students from the University of Bucharest.
