Social inclusion through sports and arts

May 14th, 2010

Policy Center for Roma and Minorities organized o a football game against racism and violence with two schools in Bucharest. The teams were composed of Roma and non-Roma pupils. During the event, one of the schools’ principal confessed that usually the Roma pupils are enrolled in a high-school of arts and crafts, especially the boys, while the girls are less frequently enrolled in such schools due to reasons related to the traditional lifestyle.

On June 29th, the Daimon Club was the host of a football game between students from other two schools in Bucharest. The goal of this activity was to offer students another option on how can they spend their spare time, but also as a way to increase their self-esteem as well. The initiative is part of the campaign against racism and violence developed by Policy Center for Roma and Minorities and implemented in schools around Bucharest. Representatives from the Embassies of  the United Kingdom, Switzerland and members of the Association for Community Development Ferentari were present and took part in the football match.

Between 5th – 16th of July, Policy Center for Roma and Minorities supported the participation of 6 children from a Ferentari  in the  creation camp “Vara pe uliță” at The National Village’s Museum “Dimitrie Gusti” in Bucharest. In a photo laboratory, the children learned for about 4 hours a day how to use the camera and take pictures. Between 3rd and 14th of August we offered the possibility for other 12 children to be a part of the photography and pottery creation camp, set up in the same location.
